Compassion Immersion: 3-4 | Fall 2019 – Winter 2020 | Menlo Park Cottage Series

Is it really possible for us to choose empathy and compassion in the face of life’s inevitable and ever-present challenges? In this 6-month course, a limited number of participants will have the opportunity to co-create a vibrant learning community in which to further cultivate and deepen how they understand, connect to and sustain compassion – as an intentional response – in the ebb and flow of their day-to-day lives and relationships.

Course Description:

In the Compassion Immersion: 3-4 six month course, we will continue to deepen the qualities of compassion, empathy, and kindness for others and for ourselves. Like Stanford’s CCT (Compassion Cultivation Training) and the Compassion Immersion-2 series (both prerequisites for this course), CI: 3-4 will make use of traditional contemplative practices, contemporary psychology, evidence-based scientific research and experiential processes to help recognize and understand the various different ways compassion can be known as a direct experience. With this as our core intention, we will once again co-create a safe container in which we can explore our own personal and societal blocks to compassion and build resilience and confidence in our ability to be with places that challenge us with the feelings of vulnerability. Our focus will be on further developing practical skills for accessing compassion and empathy, as a response to the demands of our personal and profession day-to-day lives, and on learning how to be receptive to compassion as a primary motivator for our behavior in own relationships to others and to ourselves.

Evening Cohort (E):

Meets bi-weekly (every other Wednesday) from 7:00 – 8:30 pm for 5-sessions beginning on Sept 25 – Nov 20, 2019, with a break during the HOLIDAYS.

Classes resume on Jan 15 – Apr 8, 2020 for 7-sessions.

Enrollment is limited to 20 people per cohort.

The intention underpinning this new immersion is to create an environment of safety and focus in which participants can continue to open to the transforming power of compassion in their lives. Over the course of six months, we will have the luxury of time, the time to share and explore how we can personally and collectively make mindfulness and compassion the core orientation in our day-to-day relationships. The intention of the course is to serve as a vehicle for fostering the recognition of our direct pre-verbal (felt) experience of compassion, which we can connect to in flow of our lives and relationships. It will include deepening our practices of giving and receiving compassion to and from others and, of equal importance, a further honing of self-compassion by learning how to give and ‘receive’  compassion to and from ourselves. Easier said then done!

Another  key component of this next-tier training for Alumni of CCT and the Compassion Immersions-2 and 3 courses is to cultivate closer personal connections and friendships within the greater ‘Immersion cohort’ and for individual participants to be mentored, supported and receive on-going feedback from the instructor, as needed. In brief, we will co-create this new immersion by continuing to engage in contemplative and meditative practices, deep personal reflection, and by sharing our own experiences and insights and supporting each other. In this way, we build trust in our own enormous potential and capacity to interact and relate to the worlds we live in and a sense of confidence that we can transform ourselves and society by bringing more compassion into those worlds.

Through instruction and the interactive nature of the processes incorporated in this course, you will have opportunities to cultivate new ways in which to recognize, access, and strengthen compassion, empathy, kindness, generosity, goodwill and love − as a developing default response to the ever-present challenges that characterize our common shared human experience.

This will be a closed group. As you know, Space is limited. I invite you to register only if you are genuinely serious and passionate about continuing to deepen these heart practices in your own life
