Is it really possible for us to choose empathy and compassion in the face of life’s inevitable and ever-present challenges? In this 6-month course, a limited number of participants will have the opportunity to co-create a vibrant learning community in which to further cultivate and deepen how they understand, connect to and sustain compassion – as an intentional response – in the ebb and flow of their day-to-day lives and relationships. |

Course Description:
Compassion Immersion-2 is a 6-month course designed to deepen the qualities of compassion, empathy, and kindness in oneself and for others. Like Stanford’s CCT, Compassion Cultivation Training (the prerequisite for this course), CI-2 will likewise include additional traditional contemplative practices, evidence-based scientific research, contemporary psychology, and experiential processes to help participants recognize and understand the many different ways compassion can be known — in order to experience a more compassionate life. To this end, participants will explore individual and societal blocks to compassion and hone practical skills for gaining access to compassion and empathy as a response to the needs and demands that we know all too well and that are inextricably a part of our personal and profession daily life experience.

Enrollment is limited
Over the course of six months, we will have the time necessary to share and explore how we can personally and collectively make mindfulness and compassion the core orientation and motivating force in our day-to-day relationships. The intention underpinning this ‘Immersion’ is to provide a small cohort of students with a safe and focused environment. The course is designed to serve as a vehicle for fostering a recognition of our direct felt experience of compassion, which we connect to in the flow of our individual lives and relationships. It will include deepening the practices of giving and receiving compassion to and from others and, of equal importance, a further honing of self-compassion by learning how to give and ‘receive’ compassion to and from ourselves. Easier said then done!
An important component of this 2nd-tier training for Alumni of the Stanford 8-week CCT (Compassion Cultivation Training) is to develop close personal connections and friendships within the ‘Immersion cohort’ and for participants to be mentored, supported and receive on-going feedback from the instructor. In brief, we will co-create this compassion immersion by engaging in deep personal reflection and by sharing our experiences and insights and supporting each other. In this way we build confidence and trust in our own enormous potential and capacity to transform how we interact and relate to the worlds we live in.
Through instruction and the interactive nature of the processes incorporated in this course, you will have opportunities to cultivate new ways in which to recognize, access, and strengthen compassion and empathy − as a response to the ever-present challenges that characterize our shared human experience.
This will be a closed group. Space is limited to 20 students per cohort. I invite you to register only if you are genuinely serious and passionate about deepening these heart practices in your own life.
